Great-circle length along the smoothed route the maps draw, through named waypoints: a lower bound on a reconstruction, since roads wound and ships tacked. Walking days use 25–35 km a day; sea passages have none because sailing time depended on wind more than distance.
These totals describe the mapped reconstruction, not every journey Paul ever made. Use them alongside the route map and its references. A mixed leg can contain both land and sea travel; its walking-day range applies only to the land portion.
